Renewal continues an existing registration

Renewal is for a carrier that already has a New York HUT account and needs to continue eligible vehicle credentials into the next registration series. It does not create a new account and should not be used merely to replace a lost decal.

Confirm that the renewal window is open

New York HUT renewal is not continuously available. Renewal activity generally opens during the final quarter of the year in which the current registration series expires. Confirm the current window before submitting a renewal request.

Resolve account and filing problems first

Outstanding returns, unpaid liabilities, legal-name discrepancies, inactive account status, or unresolved correspondence can delay renewal. Review the account before the renewal period becomes urgent.

• Confirm every required return has been filed
• Address tax or account correspondence
• Verify the legal business name and address
• Correct outdated USDOT information
• Confirm the account remains active and eligible

Review the active vehicle inventory

Renew only vehicles that remain in service and confirm their identifying information. Additions, deletions, weight changes, plate changes, and replacements may require separate account updates.

• VIN and unit number
• Plate number and state
• Registered and gross weight
• Vehicle ownership or lease status
• Current certificate and decal status

Do not confuse renewal, replacement, and adding a vehicle

Renewal continues registration into a new series. Replacement reissues an existing active credential. Adding a vehicle registers another truck under an active account. Selecting the wrong service can delay processing and create duplicate work.

Keep records after renewal

Renewal does not eliminate recordkeeping or filing obligations. Continue maintaining daily mileage records, supporting trip documentation, current vehicle information, and every return assigned to the HUT account.
