Why New York may request a CP-575 for a new HUT account
During a new HUT registration, New York may require additional proof of the applicant's legal business identity when the USDOT profile and the information available to New York do not match. A CP-575 is an IRS notice confirming the business's Employer Identification Number.
Why the request occurs
Differences in legal name, entity type, address, EIN, or USDOT information can prevent New York from validating a new registrant automatically. The request does not necessarily mean the application was denied; it means supporting identity documentation is required before processing can continue.
What document to provide
Provide a clear, complete copy of the IRS CP-575 EIN confirmation notice requested for the legal entity applying for HUT. The legal name and EIN should match the applicant's records.
Do not alter the notice. Confirm that the document belongs to the ordering business before sending it.
If the original CP-575 is unavailable
The IRS does not recreate the original historical CP-575 notice. Eligible Business Tax Account users may download a digital CP-575, and the IRS can provide Letter 147C as written confirmation of an EIN previously assigned. Follow the instructions in the NYHUT.com request and ask support whether the available IRS confirmation satisfies the pending request.
Review the USDOT profile
Compare the legal name and business information on the IRS notice with the FMCSA USDOT profile. If the USDOT profile is outdated or incorrect, the carrier may also need to update its FMCSA record. Sending the CP-575 does not itself change the USDOT profile.
