If a lease or agreement covers more than 30 consecutive days, the lessee must generally obtain a certificate of registration and decal for the vehicle unless the lessee will operate that vehicle for 10 days or less in New York State during the lease term.
If the lease or agreement is for 30 days or less, New York does not require the lessee to obtain a separate certificate of registration and decal for that lease. The owner's existing credential does not automatically answer every longer-term lease situation.
